Input Units vs. Report (Display) Units
This article explains the difference between Input and Report (Display) Units when reporting data.
Input Units
Input Units represent the final value after any formula is applied and must match the LODs, LOQs, and Limits if applicable. If units don’t match, comparisons will be incorrect.
Report Units
Report Units are the units of the results the lab wants displayed on the COA.
For labs testing Cannabinoids, these are controlled by the Primary Display Unit and Secondary Report Unit fields. A Tertiary Report Unit field can be added on request. The default behavior is that the Primary Display Unit also controls the Cannabinoid statboxes (Total THC, Total CBD, Total Cannabinoids).
For all other assays, the report unit is controlled by the Primary Display Unit field.
Example: Cannabinoids
- Raw value: ug/ml
- LODs and LOQs: mg/g
Since the LODs and LOQs are in mg/g, the final value formula provided by the lab calculates to mg/g. This way, its final value, LODs, and LOQs all match the same unit: mg/g.
The Input Units is therefore mg/g:

The lab then uses the Primary Display Unit and Secondary Report Unit fields to control which units the results are reported on the COA (e.g., %, mg/g, mg/ml, mg/unit, mg/serving, mg/container, ppm, etc.)
